"Ecuador formally incorporated its first multipurpose naval ship, the BAE Jambeli, in a move aimed at strengthening maritime security and the fight against organised crime. President Daniel Noboa led the official ceremony on Thursday, marking a new stage in Ecuador's security cooperation with South Korea. The vessel was built and donated by South Korea under a technical assistance and naval capacity-building agreement between the two countries. The BAE Jambeli will be used for maritime surveillance, anti-drug trafficking operations, the control of illegal activity at sea and logistical support in remote coastal areas. Noboa said the ship's arrival was part of Ecuador's broader effort to restore security. "Every step we take has a clear purpose: for Ecuadorians to live again with peace and hope," he said. "Today, South Korea joins as a new ally in this fight against insecurity, adding the Jambeli ship to our forces." South Korean officials also attended the ceremony. The country's ambassador to Ecuador, Shim Jae-hyu, said the vessel would support Ecuador's efforts to combat drug trafficking and illegal fishing. "I am convinced that the Jambelí ship will significantly contribute to the fight against drug trafficking and illegal fishing," he said. Noboa said Ecuador was also working with other international partners, including the United States and the United Arab Emirates, as part of its wider security strategy. The BAE Jambeli is 105 metres long, can carry 137 crew members and has an operational autonomy of up to 45 days at sea, allowing it to carry out extended patrols in national and international waters."
