'I believe much more in dialogue than in war' - Lula urges diplomacy over armed conflict in Middle East after Trump meeting

"Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva defended an international strategy based on dialogue and negotiation instead of armed conflicts following his meeting with US counterpart Donald Trump in Washington DC on Thursday. At a press conference from the Brazilian embassy, Lula acknowledged the differences in vision between the two leaders regarding armed conflicts, especially concerning the situation between Iran, Israel, and the United States. The Brazilian president stated that he tried to convey to the US president his concern about the humanitarian and political consequences of a military escalation. "Trump is not going to change his way of being because of a three-hour meeting with me," Lula remarked. "I believe much more in dialogue than in war. I believe that the invasion of Iran is going to cause more harm than he imagines. But there are many assumptions." He noted that part of the conversation with Trump focused on the importance of diplomacy between nations. "My vocation is dialogue and believing in the power of narrative, in the power of persuasion. That's how I believe we should do politics," the Brazilian president asserted. Lula also called for reform of international organisations such as the UN Security Council, which he believes plays no role in resolving armed conflicts in the Middle East. The Brazilian leader persisted, "I told him that if he needs help to discuss the situation in Cuba, I am completely at his disposal," citing a humanitarian crisis on the island driven by the tightening of the US trade embargo. "Cuba wants to dialogue and wants to find a solution to end a blockade that never allowed Cuba to be a complete and free country." The main objective of the Brazilian president's visit to the United States was to rebuild bilateral relations with Donald Trump's government after months of diplomatic and commercial tensions between the two countries."
