Red carpet welcome! - Philippines' Marcos Jr greets ASEAN delegates at 48th summit's plenary in Cebu

"Delegates from ASEAN member states arrived at the Mactan Expo Centre in Cebu on Friday for the bloc's 48th summit plenary session. Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr and First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos welcomed the leaders at the venue. Footage shows the heads of state arriving at the venue, shaking hands with Marcos Jr and the First Lady, and posing for photos on the podium. Myanmar was the only ASEAN member not to send a political leader to the event, with Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs U Hau Khan Sum representing Naypyidaw at the summit. ASEAN has yet to agree on whether to recognise Myanmar's April election results, after the vote saw former junta leader Min Aung Hlaing appointed as president. Scheduled to run from May 6 to 8 under the theme 'Navigating Our Future, Together', the 48th ASEAN Summit will focus on strengthening regional maritime security, energy sufficiency and disruptions to the supply chains caused by the Middle East conflict. The summit marks a key moment for the Philippines - it is the first leaders-level meeting with Manila as 2026 chair."
