Marikina opens free summer arts workshops

MARIKINA City opened its “Summer Is Cool sa Marikina” program on Friday, with the local government still accepting participants for the free arts workshops to help children and residents develop creative and practical skills during the school break. Mayor Marjorie Ann "Maan" Teodoro said the program was designed to make summer vacation both enjoyable and productive for young residents through learning and recreational activities. “We want the children’s summer break to be enjoyable, but it is also important that they learn and develop new skills while enjoying time with their friends,” Teodoro said. The city government said residents may still enroll in several arts-related activities, including folk dance, contemporary and jazz dance, hip-hop dance, performing arts, visual arts workshops, using watercolor and pastel, photography, and a Marikina photowalk activity. Teodoro said the workshops aim to help participants explore creativity, express themselves, and develop artistic talents during the school break. Aside from arts classes, the city is also offering free sessions in music, sports, and skills development for children, youth, and adults. Adult participants may also join workshops on basic makeup and beauty care, soap making, stress-reduction techniques, basic yoga, flower arrangement, and dish garden making. The Marikina local government said the program also seeks to help participants build confidence, discipline, and friendships while discovering new talents and skills during the vacation season.
