'The struggles continue' - Brazil pays tribute to its fallen in World War II, with aircraft flights and weapon marches during Victory Day

"Soldiers of the Brazilian Army gathered in Rio de Janeiro to commemorate Victory Day, as they do every May 8th, and to pay tribute to the Brazilian troops who fought alongside the Allied countries during World War II. Footage recorded on Friday shows military personnel carrying weapons, marching, and performing military hymns. There was also a flyover of military planes at the iconic Monument to the Dead of World War II. During the event, José Osorio, a 103-year-old former Brazilian Navy combatant, called for preparation in the face of current challenges. "It is always good to celebrate, to remember the past and the present. Life is not easy. The struggles are there. The struggles continue. We have to be prepared," he stated. The ceremony highlighted the historical role of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (FEB), whose troops fought in Italy in the final stages of the conflict against Nazi Germany. A minute of silence was also observed in memory of the more than 250 Brazilian soldiers who fell in combat during the war. Meanwhile, the authorities present emphasized the importance of preserving the historical memory and legacy of the military personnel who participated in the conflict more than eight decades ago. The commemoration took place in a context of global geopolitical tensions, which added a current dimension to the tribute and Brazil's role in one of the decisive conflicts of the 20th century."
