Rep. Luistro calls Sara, Imee remarks on impeachment payoffs 'baseless'

MANILA, Philippines — Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro described as "baseless" Vice President Sara Duterte and Sen. Imee Marcos' remarks that lawmakers were "cashing in" on her impeachment trial. Duterte said on Thursday that those who received "suitcases" of money to sign the articles of impeachment against her should give their money to their constituents. Marcos also said that those who would vote for the impeachment would also receive P3 million additional budget and MOOE (maintenance and other operating expenses). But during a forum held last Saturday in Quezon City, Luistro, chairman of the House of Representatives' justice committee that presided over the impeachment hearings, denied the allegations and called Duterte and Marcos' remarks as "baseless." "Wala po ako na-encounter na ganyan (I did not encounter that)," Luistro said, adding that she was never approached by anyone since the hearings began. The House plenary is set to vote on the articles on impeachment on May 11
