"Destruction and massive fire were seen in Al-Shati refugee camp, west of Gaza City, on Friday after reported Israeli airstrikes hit the area, despite an ongoing ceasefire. Footage shows an explosion sending smoke into the air, as the blaze spread through several damaged buildings. Residents and displaced people were seen gathering at the site and assessing the scale of the destruction. Camp resident Muhammad Abu Samaan said panic spread through the area after residents were warned of a strike. "At around 11:05, the first missile fell but did not explode. Shortly after, a second missile hit and detonated, causing the destruction you can see here," he explained. Abu Samaan said residents were living through repeated attacks despite the ceasefire. "We are not under a ceasefire, but a war of attrition. Every day we have martyrs, injuries and calamities," he said. According to local media reports, six Palestinians were injured on Thursday night when Israeli warplanes bombed a house in Al-Shati refugee camp. The IDF did not comment on the reported strike at the time of publication. The Israel-Hamas war began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas-led attacks killed 1,139 people, mostly Israeli civilians, and saw more than 200 people taken hostage. Israel then launched a military campaign in Gaza, including airstrikes and a ground offensive. According to Gaza health authorities, 72,628 Palestinians were killed, and 172,520 were injured at the time of publication. In January, US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff announced the launch of the second phase of President Donald Trump's 20-point plan to end the Gaza conflict, including steps from the ceasefire towards demilitarisation, a technocratic administration and reconstruction."
