Indian Coast Guard Commissions Advanced Fast Patrol Vessel ICGS Achal

The Indian Coast Guard commissioned ICGS Achal, a new-generation Adamya-class Fast Patrol Vessel, at Goa Shipyard Limited on May 9, 2026. The induction of the ship is expected to strengthen India’s maritime security and coastal surveillance capabilities. The vessel was commissioned by Shri A. Anbarasu, IAS, Additional Secretary and Director General (Acquisition), Ministry of Defence, in the presence of senior Coast Guard officials and representatives from Goa Shipyard Limited. Built by Goa Shipyard Limited, the 51 metre-long ship has more than 50 percent indigenous components, supporting the Government’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. ICGS Achal is powered by two 3000 kW diesel engines and can reach a top speed of 27 knots. The vessel has an operational range of 1,500 nautical miles and is equipped for surveillance, search and rescue, anti-smuggling, and pollution response operations. The ship is fitted with a 30 mm CRN-91 gun and two 12.7 mm remote-controlled guns along with advanced navigation and control systems. The vessel will be based at Vadinar in Gujarat under the Coast Guard Region (North West). It will be commanded by Commandant (JG) Naveen Kumar along with a crew of five officers and 34 personnel. The commissioning of ICGS Achal is part of the Indian Coast Guard’s efforts to expand its fleet and strengthen security along India’s maritime borders.
