"The Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Suvendu Adhikari took the oath as Chief Minister of West Bengal on Saturday in Kolkata, making history after de-seating Mamata Banerjee, who had held the chair for the last 15 years. Footage from Brigade Parade Ground shows a sea of supporters dressed in party colours, waving BJP flags and chanting slogans as Prime Minister Modi entered the venue along with Adhikari ahead of the oath-taking ceremony. Adhikari greeted other party members and ministers on stage as he pledged his 'loyalty and allegiance' towards the Constitution of India. "I, Subendu Adhikari, swear in the name of God that I am established by law. I will show true loyalty and allegiance to the constitution of India," the politician said. This follows the BJP's overwhelming victory in the Bengal Assembly elections, winning 207 of the 293 seats, ushering in a new era for the state. The Indian state of Bengal, in the past, never had a chief minister from the BJP and was usually governed mainly by the Congress, the Left Front and the Trinamool Congress throughout its electoral history since independence."
