'We still see these tendencies today!' - Russian envoy warns against glorifying fascism during Tehran Victory Day ceremony

"A ceremony marking the 81st anniversary of Victory Day was held at the Russian cemetery in Tehran on Saturday, with Russian officials and diplomats from several former Soviet states in attendance. Footage shows wreaths being laid at a memorial to Soviet soldiers, as officials gathered in front of the monument. Russian Ambassador to Iran Alexey Dedov said: "It is Victory Day over fascism, which cast its dark shadow not only over Europe, but over the entire world. Had fascism prevailed, most countries on our continent would have faced a terrible fate." He added: "In today’s turbulent global environment, this anniversary is extremely important. Its strength lies in the example it provides, showing what awaits those who once again glorify the ideology of fascism and Nazism. Unfortunately, we still encounter such tendencies in the world today." The Russian Embassy in Iran also posted on X: "Today, on Victory Day, we, along with our brothers from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, paid tribute to the memory of the Soviet soldiers in Tehran." This year marks the 81st anniversary of Victory Day, commemorating Nazi Germany’s surrender to Allied forces in 1945. Victory Day is observed in Russia and several other former Soviet states on May 9. Victory in Europe Day is marked in many Western countries on May 8, reflecting the time difference when Germany’s surrender came into effect."
