‘Unarmed civilians, people fleeing’ - Local blasts 'cowardly act' as seven killed in alleged Israeli strike on Lebanon’s Al-Saksakiya

"Seven people were killed and 15 injured in an alleged Israeli airstrike on the town of Al-Saksakiya in the Tyre district of southern Lebanon, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health’s Emergency Operations Centre. Footage from Saturday shows rescue workers transporting the dead and injured to ambulances, while bulldozers clear rubble during ongoing search operations at the site. "If they had a shred of courage, they would fight the soldiers, not the civilians. Go and fight the soldiers. We are not weak, what they are doing is cowardly. whoever kills unarmed civilians, people fleeing and leaving their homes is a coward, this is a cowardly act. This is oppression, but victory is ours, God willing. And the son of the South will keep his head held high," said eyewitness Kamel Murad, a local resident. The Israeli army had not acknowledged responsibility for the attack at the time of publication, however it had earlier issued a statement warning residents of the towns and villages of Tair Dabba, Al-Abbasiya, Burj Rahal, Ma’roub, Barish, Arzoun, Jannata, Al-Zarariya and Ain Ba'al to evacuate ahead of the use of ‘force’ against Hezbollah positions. Israel has designated what is known as the ‘Yellow Line’ in southern Lebanon to prevent residents from returning to areas under its control, in a repeat of a tactic previously used in Gaza. Israel has urged residents of around 80 towns in southern Lebanon not to return to their homes, stating that it continues to maintain a presence to counter what it describes as ‘terrorist activities’. Israel has indicated plans to establish a ‘security zone’ within Lebanon, extending from the border to the Litani River and covering around 10% of Lebanese territory. "
