'Russia, responsible for the victory in World War II' – Relatives of deceased soldiers pay tribute to the fallen on Victory Day in Rio

"The Consulate General of Russia in Rio de Janeiro and relatives of deceased military personnel participated on Saturday in a tribute by the "Immortal Regiment" movement for those fallen in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) and the 81st anniversary of the Victory Day of the Soviet Union over Nazi Germany. Recorded images show attendees gathered at the Monument to the Dead of World War II, where they placed flowers in front of a cross. They also carried portraits of relatives and veterans who fought in the war and observed moments of silence in honor of the deceased. Nicolai, one of the attendees, stated that he attended the event "honoring the memory of my great-grandfather," who was in charge of communications in the forests of Russia during World War II. "For me, this is an important day because I come here and, through me, he has memory and can be present at an event that will celebrate the victory," he asserted. Meanwhile, Adair Carneiro, president of the Federation of Foreign Chambers of Commerce, described it as "an honor and a pleasure" to participate in the event and highlighted Russia's role in the defeat of Nazi Germany. "I have increasingly promoted rapprochement with Russia. We have a beautiful history. Russia was, in fact, responsible for the victory in World War II, something that is not so recognized in the world, but it is a reality," he noted. The "Immortal Regiment" movement, originated in Russia, has expanded internationally with commemorative events in cities around the world where Russian-speaking communities exist, as part of an annual tradition, celebrated every May 9, aimed at preserving the historical memory of those who participated in the war."
