LAHORE: A high-level Chinese business delegation of 30 members visited the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Regional Office in Lahore this week, holding wide-ranging talks with Pakistani business leaders to boost bilateral trade, investment, and industrial cooperation. The visit resulted in the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between Chinese firms and Punjab-based Chambers of Commerce, alongside sector-specific Business-to-Business (B2B) meetings to explore joint ventures and investment opportunities. FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh described Pakistan as a strategic bridge linking China to the Middle East, Africa, and Europe, with Gwadar Port serving as a key gateway. Business leaders highlighted Pakistan’s GSP Plus status, which grants duty-free access to over 6,600 product lines in the European Union, as a major draw for Chinese manufacturers seeking to reach Western markets at lower tariffs under the “Made in Pakistan” label. Officials also pointed to Punjab’s agricultural potential, Special Economic Zones offering 10-year tax holidays, and the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement as compelling incentives for Chinese investors. Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, called the visit the beginning of a new chapter in bilateral cooperation through trade and joint investment. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
