ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday said Pakistan’s response during Ma’arka-e-Haq and Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos demonstrated the country’s military capability, national unity and commitment to defending its sovereignty against aggression. In his message on the first anniversary of Ma’arka-e-Haq, the President said Pakistan responded with “discipline, precision, courage and unity” after India allegedly carried out unprovoked strikes on Pakistani territory under the pretext of the Pahalgam incident last year. He stated that Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos reflected Pakistan’s strong deterrence based on professional competence, tri-service coordination and the unwavering resolve of the nation. He paid tribute to the armed forces and martyrs who sacrificed their lives in defence of the country. President Zardari said Pakistan is recognised globally as a country that not only knows how to defend itself but also contributes to regional peace and stability. He claimed Pakistan played a constructive diplomatic role in easing recent tensions in West Asia by facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran. Reiterating Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir, the President said the dispute remains the core issue behind regional instability and called for a resolution in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. He also criticised India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, terming it an attempt to “weaponise water” and warning that Pakistan would defend its water rights with full resolve. The President further said Pakistan remains committed to eliminating terrorism in all forms and expects Afghan authorities to ensure that Afghan soil is not used against Pakistan. He concluded by saying that Pakistan seeks peace and dialogue but will never accept coercion or compromise on its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
