"A licensed governor's house, Rubén Rocha Moya, was attacked with gunfire on Saturday morning in Culiacán, reported the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) of the Mexican state of Sinaloa. In the images, the property is seen with bullet impacts on walls, doors, and windows, without visible security cordons and in apparent calm. Police officers arrived at the scene to begin the corresponding investigations and collect ballistic evidence, before leaving the residence. Authorities reported that around 10 in the morning, local time, neighbors alerted about multiple gunfire against a house located in the Las Quintas neighborhood. They also confirmed that the attacked residence had been unoccupied for more than a decade by the Sinaloan governor. After the incident, no injuries were reported. Residents claim that armed confrontations and murders in the city have been ongoing for several months, and they criticize the state government's inaction. Violence in Culiacán significantly erupted in September 2024, following the capture of Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada in the U.S., triggering an internal war in the Sinaloa Cartel between factions of Los Chapitos and La Mayiza. For his part, Rocha Moya requested a temporary leave from his position on May 2, days after U.S. authorities accused him of alleged links to the Sinaloa Cartel, as well as alleged crimes related to drug trafficking and possession of weapons."
