"The residence of now-former Sinaloa governor Ruben Rocha Moya was attacked with gunfire on Saturday morning in Culiacan, according to the state's Public Security Secretariat. Footage shows the property with bullet impacts on walls, doors, and windows, without visible security cordons and in apparent calm. Police officers arrived at the scene to begin the corresponding investigations and collect ballistic evidence before leaving the residence. Authorities said that around 10 a.m. local time (5 p.m. GMT), neighbours alerted about multiple gunshots at a house located in the Las Quintas neighbourhood. They also confirmed that the attacked residence had been unoccupied for more than a decade by the Sinaloan governor. No injuries were reported. The attack comes days after Rocha Moya requested temporary leave from his position on May 2, following US accusations of alleged links to the Sinaloa Cartel and alleged crimes related to drug trafficking and weapons possession. Residents claim that armed confrontations and murders in the city have been ongoing for several months, criticising the state government's inaction. Violence in Culiacan significantly erupted in September 2024, following the capture of Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada in the US, triggering an internal war in the Sinaloa Cartel between factions of Los Chapitos and La Mayiza."
