'Everyone had someone in their family die at the front' - Immortal Regiment march in New York met with pro-Ukrainian counter-protest on V-Day

"Dozens of participants took part in a motor rally and an Immortal Regiment march in New York on Saturday to commemorate Victory Day, which was met with a pro-Ukrainian counter-protest. Footage shows a convoy of vehicles travelling through Brooklyn carrying Victory Day banners and Soviet symbols alongside American flags before stopping in Brighton Beach, where pro-Ukrainian protesters gathered, chanting slogans against what they described as ‘Russian propaganda.’ “I am present here today in connection with the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, and this is the most important holiday in the life of every person,” President of the American Association of Invalids and Veterans of World War II Leonid Rozenberg said. “Victory is a miracle for humanity. It is a great joy for every family that survived,” he added. Rozenberg also highlighted the participation of Russian-speaking families living in the United States. “It is a miracle that American families with children celebrate this holiday, this holiday of peace, this holiday of joy,” he said. “Everyone had someone in their family die at the front.” This year marks the 81st anniversary of Victory Day, commemorating Nazi Germany’s surrender to Allied forces in 1945. Victory Day is observed in Russia and several other former Soviet states on May 9. Victory in Europe Day is marked in many Western countries on May 8, reflecting the time difference when Germany’s surrender came into effect."
