'It was like doomsday' - First responders rush in after car bombing and armed attack kills 15 in northwestern Pakistan

"Rescue teams rushed to the scene of a suspected suicide car bombing in northwestern Pakistan's Bannu on Sunday, after the incident left several dead or injured. Footage shows first responders clearing the rubble in search of survivors. Meanwhile, ambulances transported the injured to a hospital, where they can be seen receiving medical care. The car bombing caused extensive destruction, badly damaging vehicles near the impact area. It was followed by an armed assault on a police checkpoint, claiming at least 15 lives at the time of publication. "I was at home at the time of blasts," eyewitness Dilawar Jan shared. "First, there was a major blast followed by gun shots. In my own house, small animal shelters collapsed." "The situation was so bad that we were unable to come out and see. Continuous explosions. It was like doomsday for the police there. There was fire and young boys were trying to control it," he continued. According to local media, the attack involved around 120 militants linked to the Pakistani Taliban (TTP). Authorities confirmed that 15 police officers were killed in the blast and subsequent exchange of fire. Police said 21 personnel were on duty at the time, with the wounded taken to a local hospital. The TTP later claimed responsibility for the assault, alleging it had killed all security personnel at the site. The checkpoint, located about five kilometres from Bannu city, is considered a sensitive security post and has been targeted in more than a dozen attacks in recent years, as it serves as a key access point to the city."
