THE Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) will issue today, May 11, a subpoena to Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa requiring his appearance in connection with alleged extrajudicial killings during the war on drugs waged by the Duterte administration, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla announced on Sunday. During a briefing at Camp Crame, Remulla said the subpoena is “not an arrest warrant" but a demand for the senator and former PNP chief “to appear” before the CIDG. If dela Rosa does not comply, BGen. Hansel Marantan, acting regional police director for Calabarzon, and Gen. Robert Alexander Morico II, acting CIDG chief, will lead a task force to find him. Dela Rosa went into hiding in November last year following reports that the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued a warrant for his arrest. Some sectors want him sanctioned for continuously drawing a salary despite his long absence. “We will treat him with all the respect that he deserves. He’s a senator, a former chief of the Philippine National Police, a former director of the BuCor,” Remulla said.
