"Several shop owners in the town of al-Eizariya, east of Jerusalem, were compelled to dismantle their shops after Israeli forces informed them last Wednesday that demolition was imminent. Footage filmed on Sunday shows shop owners dismantling their businesses, as well as an Israeli soldier documenting the process with his phone before getting into a military vehicle and driving away. "This land belongs to our family, the Mohsen family. We hold all the documents proving ownership," said Suleiman Mohsen, who owns the land where the shops stand. "They argue that this street is a lifeline, claiming the buildings obstruct it so they can push through a street project". "What is happening now is more like gangster actions, as if they are saying: no one can oppose us and we will do whatever we want," he continued. According to local media reports, about 50 citizens were verbally notified to vacate their shops and commercial facilities in the Al-Mashtal area in order to implement earlier demolition orders issued in August 2025. Meanwhile, Jameel Musa, the owner of several shops threatened with demolition, said, "I'm not saying I'm not afraid, a person naturally fears for his money and property. But I won't let them demolish so easily, and I won't run away. That day they came as if to terrorise people, but neither I nor my tenants fled, and we won't flee. Either we stay here, or they demolish over our heads." Local media also reported Israeli Supreme Court ruled to halt the demolition of about 50 commercial shops at the entrance to al-Eizariya following the plea of the Catholic human rights organisation St. Yves Center. No update had been issued by the Israeli government regarding its Supreme Court's decision to freeze the demolition operations as of the time of publication."
