Strict isolation - French passengers from hantavirus-hit cruise ship land in Paris as one evacuee shows symptoms

"French passengers from the hantavirus-hit cruise ship MV Hondius landed in Paris under heavy security measures on Sunday. Footage shows ambulances carrying the French patients leaving the airport. According to reports, a jet carrying five evacuated French passengers landed shortly before 16:30 local time (14:30 GMT) at Le Bourget Airport, north of Paris. They were then transferred into a convoy of five ambulances and taken under police escort to a Paris hospital. Later, French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu said that one of the passengers showed symptoms of the virus while on the flight, and all evacuees have been placed under strict isolation. Nearly 150 passengers and crew of the ship are being evacuated in phases for medical screening, with repatriation flights expected to continue through Monday, May 11. The cruise ship anchored near the Port of Granadilla in Spain’s Canary Islands on Sunday morning under strict health protocols. Spain's authorities stated that the overall public risk remains 'low'. Passengers have since been flown to hospitals in their home countries or to the Netherlands for medical checks. The outbreak is believed to have started during the ship’s South America itinerary, before it departed Ushuaia on April 1. South African authorities began tracing contacts after a Dutch woman became seriously ill during travel and later died after being removed from a flight in Johannesburg. Officials in Saint Helena confirmed that local contacts were identified and given health guidance. A total of eight cases have been reported so far, six confirmed and two suspected, including three deaths."
