"Farmers blocked a road outside the Feyzin oil refinery in south-east France on Monday in protest against rising fuel prices triggered by the global energy crises linked to the Middle East conflict. Footage shows piles of soil, wood and other waste being dumped on the road by trucks, as dozens of protesters, many wearing signature yellow hats from the French agricultural union, Coordination Rurale (CR), gathered. "We used to spend 1,500 EUR if we processed 2,000 litres per month. Now, we pay 3,000 EUR, although we are doing the exact same thing - the same work. We sell our wheat and corn at the same price, and our milk and meat, too," one of the protesters, farmer Pierre Grenouiller, said, adding, "Our cash flow is taking a hit, as are our revenue and our income." Fuel prices have surged sharply in recent months. Diesel has reportedly jumped to above 2.10 - 2.20 EUR per litre - a significant rise of nearly 50 cent per litre since late February, while petrol has risen to over 2 EUR per litre. The protest comes as the French government faces mounting pressure to respond to rising living costs and energy prices, with agricultural unions warning of further mobilisation if demands are not met. Shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for roughly 20 per cent of global oil and liquefied natural gas, have driven prices higher and strained imports. The disruption follows escalating tensions after the United States and Israel launched joint military operations against Iran on February 28."
