4Ps lifts 1.6M families from poverty – DSWD

MORE than 1.6 million families have risen from poverty through the government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Monday. The DSWD described the number of families it assisted as a milestone in the government’s effort to end intergenerational poverty among low-income households. “Throughout its almost 18 years of implementation, the 4Ps has helped over 1.6 million families to rise from poverty,” Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said. The DSWD said the highest number of families who graduated from the program came from the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), followed by the National Capital Region, Ilocos Region, Calabarzon, and Central Luzon. Beneficiaries are assessed through the Social Welfare and Development Indicator, which measures the economic sufficiency and social adequacy of households enrolled in the program. Households are classified into three well-being levels: survival, subsistence, and self-sufficient. The DSWD said the 4Ps Kilos-Unlad Social Case Management Strategy was introduced to help beneficiaries address complex needs and eventually transition out of the program. “We have been reiterating that the 4Ps is an investment in the future of Filipino families because it helps low-income households meet the health and education needs of children while empowering them toward long-term development,” Dumlao said. The agency said it continues to coordinate with local government units and private sector partners to sustain the gains achieved by graduating 4Ps beneficiaries and support the Marcos administration’s poverty reduction goals.
