'I will not resign' - Ramaphosa insists on right to take Phala Phala report on review after ruling

"President Cyril Ramaphosa ruled out resigning from office despite renewed political pressure and calls from opposition parties for his impeachment, following a Constitutional Court ruling linked to the handling of a parliamentary report on the Phala Phala farm scandal. “I therefore respectfully want to make it clear that I will not resign,” Ramaphosa said. He argued that the Constitutional Court made no findings of misconduct against him and did not determine whether there was 'prima facie evidence' warranting his removal from office. "Instead, the Constitutional Court judgment reinforces the principles, the rights and processes underpinning our constitutional order. This explicitly includes the right to take the report of the independent panel on review," he added. The president also defended his administration’s broader anti-corruption agenda, pointing to ongoing investigations, prosecutions and reforms within state institutions. “We are implementing the recommendations of the State Capture Commission,” Ramaphosa stated, adding that authorities were continuing efforts against organised crime, corruption and abuses within security structures. The case relates to the alleged theft of foreign currency from Ramaphosa’s private Phala Phala farm in 2020 and questions over whether the incident was properly disclosed and investigated by parliamentary structures."
