On the grounds of the OMV refinery in Schwechat (Bruck an der Leitha district), persistent chemicals are said to have entered the groundwater over decades. According to a report in the "Tuesday edition of Der Standard," the cause is the firefighting foam used in fire drills. Investigations have discovered elevated concentrations of per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) in the groundwater in the Mannswörth area. The public drinking water network is not affected, emphasized OMV.
