Justin Ford / Getty Images Brandon Clarke, who played for the Memphis Grizzlies, died on Monday of an undisclosed cause. He was 29. Clarke’s team honored the power forward on X, calling him an “outstanding teammate” and offering condolences to his family and loved ones. “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brandon Clarke,” the Grizzlies said in a statement. “Brandon was an outstanding teammate and an even better person whose impact on the organization and the greater Memphis community will not be forgotten. We express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.” His agency, Priority Sports said in a separate post that Clarke’s family “asks for privacy as they grieve and make arrangements.” The 6′8” forward was embroiled in controversy prior to his death after being caught in high-speed chase with law enforcement in April. He was charged with trafficking a controlled substance, identified as Kratom, as well as possession of a controlled substance, fleeing in a vehicle exceeding the speed limit, and improper passing. The basketballer began his career in 2019 with the Oklahoma City Thunder as the 21st overall pick in the draft. He was immediately traded to Memphis, where he played for seven seasons. He took a break this season, appearing in only two games after a knee injury, and later a calf injury, prevented him from playing further.
