"Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong-un urged rapid modernisation of weapons production to meet the demands of the national armed forces as he inspected several munitions factories recently. Images released by state media Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Wednesday show Kim speaking to factory workers at a bullet production factory and inspecting various weaponry. The exact location or time of the images cannot be independently verified. “He stressed the need to concentrate on the modernisation, such as practical upgrading of production structure and rational arrangement of production lines and to wage a dynamic struggle intended to optimise the technical control and the management of talents and workforce,” Kim said as cited by KCNA. Kim was accompanied by secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) Central Committee Jo Chun-ryong and high-ranking defence officials, including advisor to the Ministry of National Defence Pak Jong-chon and Vice-Minister of National Defence and director of the General Armaments Bureau Kim Kang-il. The high inspection marks an important milestone in the implementation of the five-year defence development (2026–2030), centred on expanding nuclear and missile capabilities."
