'Allies have heard the message and are following up' - Rutte addresses Trump's 'disappointment' over European support in Iran war

"Secretary-General of NATO Mark Rutte addressed US President Donald Trump's 'disappointment' over the lack of support from European allies in the Iran war. This was said during the joint press conference with President of Romania Nicusor Dan and Polish President Karol Nawrocki after the Nine Summit and Nordic Allies Summit in Bucharest on Wednesday. "My message to the United States is: the Europeans hear the message. They are following up. We are really working together on this," Rutte reaffirmed. NATO's Secretary-General explained that the European allies were working on the US demands on two fronts: fulfilling the existing bilateral commitments and making 'necessary' preparations for mine clearance operations set by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz. "NATO 3.0 means a stronger Europe and a stronger NATO and a stronger Europe and a stronger NATO means with the United States," he added. Backing Rutte, Nicusor Dan said that European countries were on the trajectory to make proportional contributions to NATO after Trump's reservations over burden-sharing. "Europeans have understood this [...] we are already in NATO 3.0, and the obligation of 3.5 plus 1.5 is until 2035, and we are on this trajectory," Dan said. This comes as Trump announced the withdrawal of 5,000 US soldiers from Germany and raised doubts over the continued viability of US arms supplies to Ukraine after the Iran war. Countries on the eastern flank are rushing to bid to host American troops on their soil following Trump's announcement."
