LAHORE: Heavy rain with hailstorm lashed Lahore and adjoining areas on Wednesday, providing much-needed relief to the residents after a prolonged spell of scorching heat. Intermittent rainfall continued across several parts of the city, with some localities receiving heavy showers while others experienced light rain. The downpour significantly improved weather conditions, turning the atmosphere pleasant after soaring daytime temperatures. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, intermittent rain is expected to continue over the next 24 hours. Rain was reported in multiple areas of the provincial capital, including Lakshmi Chowk, Kalma Chowk, Liberty Chowk, Mall Road, GT Road and areas surrounding the Lahore Railway Station. According to a report released by WASA Lahore, 95mm rain was recorded at Lakshmi Chowk, 79mm at Paniwala Talab 53.2mm at Sagian Bridge and 45.8mm at Gulshan-e-Ravi. Weather officials stated that the rainfall was caused by a localized weather development system triggered by rising temperatures and increased atmospheric pressure. Meanwhile, the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) reported widespread disruptions in electricity supply due to rain, strong winds, and hailstorm. More than 55 feeders tripped across different operational circles, while an additional 23 feeders were also affected in various parts of the provincial capital causing hours’ long power shutdowns. However, the LESCO field teams started restoration work on the affected feeders immediately after the weather conditions improved. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
