Load management enforced in Lahore after damage to NGC circuits

ISLAMABAD: Load management was carried out in parts of Lahore after transmission circuits of the National Grid Company were damaged due to a severe windstorm. According to spokesperson of ISMO, 12 towers of 220kV Lahore North Circuit-I, Bund Road Circuit-I and Bund Road Circuit-II collapsed strong winds, disrupting the transmission system. The collapse of the towers caused overloading on Lahore North and Lahore North–Sheikhupura circuits, resulting in load management of 50 to 200 MW in central areas of Lahore from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm on May 11. The statement clarified that the load management was limited only to the affected circuits and that there is no shortfall in overall power generation in the country. Restoration work on the damaged towers is underway. However, load management may continue in central areas of Lahore as required until the affected circuits are fully restored. The grid stations whose feeders were affected include Ravi, Baghbanpura (Bogie Wal), BadamiBagh, Mochi Gate, ChahMiran, Shalimar I & II, Saggian, Fort, Sheranwala, Bhati Gate, McLeod Road, Qurtaba, Shahdara New, and Gulshan Ravi. Spokesperson further stated that efforts are being made to keep load management to a minimum to reduce inconvenience for consumers. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
