NBI verifying Bato ‘escape’

MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Thursday said it is verifying reports that Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa is no longer at the Senate. Dela Rosa, considered a “wanted” person by the International Criminal Court (ICC), supposedly “escaped” following the shooting incident Wednesday night. “Maybe it would be good to ask the Senate and also the OSAA (Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms) because they will be the ones who can really say if there was an actual exit or departure of Sen. Bato,” NBI Director Melvin Matibag said in Filipino at a Palace briefing. Dela Rosa sought Senate protective custody earlier this week after NBI agents tried to serve the arrest order from the ICC. He was named as an “indirect co-perpetrator” of former president Rodrigo Duterte who is facing charges of crimes against humanity in connection with the Duterte administration’s bloody anti-drugs campaign.
