"Supporters of presidential candidate Rafael Lopez Aliaga protested outside Peru’s National Jury of Elections in Lima on Wednesday, demanding new elections after updated official results showed Keiko Fujimori and Roberto Sanchez on course for a runoff. Footage shows protesters gathered outside the electoral body, where they denounced alleged fraud and claimed the vote did not reflect the will of the Peruvian people. "The elections should be held again. We believe that the elections that took place were a simulation of elections. The evidence of all the violations that have been found shows that they were only intended to harm one candidate," said supporter German Ugarte. Protesters cited alleged irregularities during the electoral process, including missing records, delays in setting up polling stations and delays in the vote count. They said the issues affected the results presented by Peru’s National Office of Electoral Processes. "All these things have only happened in Lima, harming only one candidate [Rafael Lopez Aliaga]. And under these circumstances, the ONPE is about to give results with a margin of difference of 15,000 votes," said supporter Jorge Flores. "We are living in a fictitious democracy in the country," he added. Lopez Aliaga’s supporters also criticised Roberto Sanchez, who is expected to face Fujimori in the second round, saying he does not reflect the popular will and has the backing of Peru’s left. With nearly all ballots counted, Fujimori, of Popular Force, was leading with just over 17 percent of the vote, followed by Sanchez, of Together for Peru, on around 12 percent. Lopez Aliaga was in third place, less than a percentage point behind. Fujimori and Sanchez are expected to compete in the runoff scheduled for June 7."
