DSWD gives P65 million aid to residents displaced by Mayon unrest

GUINOBATAN, Albay — Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian assured full government assistance for individuals displaced by the unrest of Mayon Volcano during his visit here on Thursday. Gatchalian personally led the payout of emergency cash transfers to more than 2,000 farmers in the towns of Guinobatan and Camalig, which were affected by heavy ashfall on May 2 that blanketed farmlands. He said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. directed him to personally check the needs of affected residents and ensure these are properly addressed, noting that the eruption has caused inconvenience to many Albayanos.
