Health group urges gov’t to procure dengue vaccines

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Medical Association (PMA) urged the government to bolster dengue prevention efforts by procuring dengue vaccines, as the country lags in eradicating the disease. In a statement Thursday, the PMA highlighted how dengue remains a recurring health problem, noting that several Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam have granted regulatory authorization for new dengue vaccines. “Ensuring access to safe and effective dengue prevention tools is critical,” said Dr. Hector Santos, president of the PMA.
