"Ships were captured at a standstill in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday amid Iran's ongoing navigation restrictions and the United States' continued naval blockade of Iranian ports. Footage shows vessels and oil tankers stranded at sea, with some carrying containers while others appeared empty. Iranian state television announced that Tehran had allowed 30 ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz since Wednesday night. Speaking during the BRICS summit in New Delhi, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the strait remains open to commercial shipping, provided vessels cooperate with Iranian naval forces. This comes as US President Donald Trump rejected Iran's latest response to a proposed agreement aimed at ending the war. He threatened to resume 'Operation Project Freedom' and repeatedly stated that the United States will continue its blockade of Iranian ports. Meanwhile, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said earlier on Wednesday that the next phase would involve a joint initiative led by the United States, the UK and France to ensure adequate resources for mine-clearance operations and help keep the strait open. He added that Italy would deploy two additional minesweepers near the Strait of Hormuz to remain on standby if required. Rutte also pointed to wider support efforts involving Germany, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Belgium, France and other allied countries. The United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran on February 28, killing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. His son, Mojtaba Khamenei, was later named as his successor. On April 8, Trump announced a temporary ceasefire with Iran to allow negotiations aimed at ending the conflict. Talks later took place in Islamabad, but ended without an agreement. Since then, the Strait of Hormuz has remained a central flashpoint, with Iran restricting traffic through the waterway and the United States maintaining pressure on Iranian ports and shipping."
