MANILA, Philippines — Senator Jinggoy Estrada on Friday said his statement about the hiding of CCTV was taken out of context, saying the remark was part of a discussion on securing video evidence and not an attempt to conceal it. In a statement, Estrada clarified that the remark was made amid the confusion immediately after the shooting incident in the Senate and was intended to support efforts to preserve closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage that could aid investigators. “Based on the real-time footage taken after the shooting incident, it is clear that what I said was in agreement with the discussion to secure and preserve the CCTV footage that could serve as important evidence,” Estrada said. The senator said that Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano immediately instructed personnel to secure the CCTV footage, while Sen. Loren Legarda was also heard asking whether the incident had been captured on camera. “The context of the conversation was clear, direct, and without any hint of other meaning,” Estrada said.
