"Colombia's National Registry of the Civil Status conducted a simulation on Thursday to demonstrate how votes will be processed and counted during the 2026 presidential election. Footage shows officials filling out ballots and taking notes on the processes that must be followed in the upcoming elections, which will take place on May 31 amid concerns about security and public order in some regions of the country. The delegated registrar, Jaime Suarez Bayona, assured that the authorities are working in coordination with various institutions to ensure 'transparent and free' elections, in addition to reinforcing security at polling stations. "We are committed to ensuring a transparent and free electoral process," said Suarez Bayona, noting that the public force will accompany the electoral day even though security does not directly depend on the registry. Meanwhile, the director of electoral management, Rafael Vargas, explained that more than 41 million Colombians will be eligible to vote in more than 4,489 polling stations nationwide and 253 abroad. The authorities have announced that after the polls close at 4 pm, the jury will conduct a preliminary count of the votes, which will be done by judges of the court and could take until the final verification of the results has been completed."
