MANILA, Philippines — Manila Electric Company (Meralco) announced Friday the schedule of rotating brownouts in the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Quezon and in Metro Manila, as the yellow and red alerts in the Luzon grid has been extended. The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said that as of May 15, the yellow alert status for Luzon is between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., and between 11 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. The red alert status, on the other hand, is between 2 p.m. and 11 p.m. The NGCP said the extension is due to the tripping of GNPD 1, resulting in a loss of 668 MW. Meanwhile, Meralco said that it may implement manual load dropping (MLD), or rotating brownouts, in three time periods in its franchise area. Between 3:01 p.m. and 7 p.m., Meralco may implement MLD in some areas in Balagtas, Baliuag City, Bocaue, Marilao, Pulilan, San Ildefonso, San Jose del Monte City, Santa Maria, in Bulacan. Parts of Alfonso, Amadeo, Bacoor City, Dasmariñas City, General Emilio Aguinaldo, General Trias City, Imus City, Indang, Kawit, Magallanes, Maragondon, Noveleta, Silang, Tagaytay City, Ternate, and Trece Martires City in Cavite may be affected as well. Some portions of Cabuyao City, Calamba City, Calauan, Los Baños, Luisiana, Majayjay, Sta. Cruz, and Sta. Rosa City in Laguna; and some sections of Lucban, Sampaloc and Tayabas City in Quezon will also be under MLD during the time period. Several areas in all cities in Metro Manila except Valenzuela, and the municipality of Pateros; and some locations in Angono, Antipolo City, Baras, Binangonan, Cainta, Morong, Rodriguez (Montalban), San Mateo, Taytay, and Teresa in Rizal will also have rotating brownouts. Between 4:01 p.m. and 8 p.m., Meralco may implement MLD in some locations in Makati City and in Wack-Wack Greenhills East in Mandaluyong City. The distribution utility may implement rotating brownouts between 5:01 p.m. and 9 p.m. in some parts of Alfonso, Dasmariñas City, General Emilio Aguinaldo, General Trias City, Maragondon, Tagaytay City, and Trece Martires City in Cavite; and some locations in Biñan City, Laguna. Some places in the cities of Caloocan, Makati, Malabon, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Pasay, Pasig, Quezon and Taguig in Metro Manila; and some areas in Angono, Antipolo City, Binangonan, Cainta, and Taytay will also be affected by the MLD during the said period.
