Paw-triotic pups! - Dogs in national colours steal the show at Asuncion Independence Day parade

"More than 50 dogs participated in a peculiar parade in Asuncion on Thursday as part of the celebrations for the 215th anniversary of Paraguay's independence. Footage shows dogs dressed in the colours of the national flag, wearing costumes that allude to independence heroes. "They are four-legged angels. [...] They mean so much to us, and sometimes we think they are the ones who don't need us, but I believe we are the ones who need them," said an attendee. Ana Gonzalez, one of the participating owners, noted that during the event, several people commented that her dog reminded them of deceased pets, which created emotional moments. "It's something very beautiful because we all share love for pets. I already met several people who tell me that [my dog] is just like their dog, who even passed away, and they cry there with him, and we share the same passion, right? And I find it very beautiful because we all share the same love for animals," she recounted. Dogs competed in categories including best patriotic outfit, best pet-owner duo, the most charming, and the most talented. The event, known as 'Jagua Patriota', which means 'patriotic dog' in Guarani, has been held for 10 years and has become a traditional part of the celebrations. The parade is part of the independence activities in Asuncion, which include military aircraft flyovers, a laurel offering at the Pantheon of Heroes, and the Independence Festival in front of the Cabildo."
