SBP launches nationwide ‘Go Cashless’ campaign for Eidul Adha cattle markets

The State Bank of Pakistan on Friday launched a nationwide “Go Cashless” campaign for Eidul Adha 2026 to promote secure and convenient digital transactions in cattle markets across the country. The central bank said the initiative was part of its broader strategy to reduce reliance on cash and accelerate digitisation of Pakistan’s payment ecosystem. According to SBP, cattle markets witness massive commercial activity during Eidul Adha, with most transactions traditionally carried out in cash. The bank said it had been using this seasonal economic activity in recent years to encourage adoption of digital payment channels and improve financial inclusion. Under the campaign, 22 participating banks will establish dedicated camps and kiosks at assigned cattle markets to facilitate digital payments for buyers and sellers. The banks will onboard cattle sellers, transporters and allied service providers onto digital payment platforms through account openings and QR code-based payment solutions. SBP also announced temporary relaxations on transaction and account balance limits from May 14 to June 5, 2026, to support higher transaction volumes during the Eid season. The central bank encouraged the public to use mobile banking apps, branchless banking wallets, Raast-enabled services and QR code payments for Eid-related transactions, saying digital payments offer greater convenience and security while reducing risks associated with carrying cash. SBP added that the initiative would also contribute to building a more efficient, transparent and inclusive financial ecosystem in Pakistan.
