PRA shows 51pc growth in revenue in April

LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has demonstrated exceptional revenue performance by recording a 51 percent growth in tax collection during the month of April, successfully collecting more than Rs 36 billion in revenue. According to official figures released by the PRA, the provincial revenue collecting agency had collected Rs 23.7 billion during April of the previous fiscal year, whereas substantial growth has been achieved this year through improved enforcement measures, enhanced monitoring and expansion of the tax net. The PRA has also maintained a strong upward trajectory throughout the current fiscal year. During the first 10 months of the last fiscal year, the PRA collected Rs 204 billion while collections during the corresponding period of the current fiscal year have surpassed Rs 285 billion. Chairman PRA Moazzam Iqbal Sipra said that the PRA has collected an additional Rs 81 billion in revenue compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year, reflecting the authority’s consistent efforts to strengthen provincial revenues. He remarked that increased government revenues are vital for the development of Punjab and the provision of better public facilities and services to citizens. He also directed all enforcement officers to ensure effective field operations for broadening the tax base and facilitating the registration of new taxpayers. A meeting regarding monthly revenue performance and achievement of revenue targets was also held under the chairmanship of Moazzam Iqbal Sipra. According to the PRA spokesperson, during the meeting, detailed reviews of field formations’ performance were conducted, while sectors lagging behind targets were identified for improvements. The chairman also issued instructions for strict monitoring and further improvement in sales tax on services collections. Monthly performance reports of various sectors were reviewed and revenue targets for the upcoming month were assigned accordingly. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
