"Monterrey's BBVA Stadium in Guadalupe, Nuevo Leon, is getting its final World Cup polish before the handover to FIFA on May 17 as one of Mexico's three venues for the 2026 tournament. Footage filmed on Friday shows the BBVA Stadium, also known as Monterrey Stadium, including the pitch, stands, box area, dressing rooms and press conference facilities. The stadium's handover to FIFA was pushed to Sunday after hosting Thursday's Liga MX Femenil final between Monterrey and America. Mexico City's Azteca Stadium was handed over on May 14, with Guadalajara's Akron Stadium following a day later. Local media reported that staff worked through the early hours of Friday on cleaning, adjustments and final fixes to meet the deadlines set by the Monterrey 26 Local Organising Committee. Further work is still planned, mainly in the media areas. The press facilities are expected to be moved from the first level to the second floor, while the press room will be adapted to accommodate more journalists at post-match conferences. The stadium's boxes and suites are also set for upgrades, while Monterrey FC and sponsor branding will be stripped out to meet FIFA requirements. All changes must be completed two weeks before the venue hosts its first World Cup match. FIFA has assigned four matches to Monterrey Stadium: three group-stage games and one round-of-16 tie."
