KARACHI: Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi on Saturday assured industrialists of the government’s full support in resolving their pressing issues during a meeting with a delegation of the North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (NKATI) led by its President Faisal Moez Khan, here at the Governor House. The meeting focused on a range of challenges confronting the industrial sector, including security threats, extortion complaints, water shortages, sewerage issues, deteriorating infrastructure, and delays in development projects affecting industrial activity in North Karachi. During the meeting, Faisal Moez Khan informed the Governor that several industrialists had reportedly received extortion and ransom slips, creating fear and uncertainty within the business community. He urged the government to take immediate and effective measures to ensure the safety and protection of industrialists and their businesses. The NKATI president also expressed serious concern over delays in the establishment of the Combined Effluent Treatment Plant, stating that the project was crucial for industrial sustainability and environmental compliance. He emphasized that prolonged delays were causing difficulties for industries operating in the area. Highlighting additional concerns, Faisal Moez Khan requested the Governor’s intervention for the prompt resolution of complaints related to the Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI). He further stressed the need for a separate industrial zone dedicated to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), saying such an initiative would encourage investment, boost production, and generate employment opportunities. Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi said the government fully recognizes the key role of industrialists in strengthening the national economy and increasing exports. He stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has always pursued policies aimed at facilitating the business community and promoting industrial growth across the country. The Governor noted that under the Karachi Package, special funds have also been allocated for the improvement of infrastructure in the city’s industrial areas, including roads, drainage, and other civic facilities.
