Capital has witnessed over 40 incidents of crime within one week

ISLAMABAD: The federal capital witnessed over 40 incidents of crime during the last week, including vehicle thefts, street crimes and robberies, in which citizens were deprived of valuables worth millions of rupees. According to data collected by Business Recorder the 40 reported incidents included 27 cases of vehicle theft, nine incidents of street crime involving mobile phone and cash snatching, and five cases of various kinds of theft and robbery. The data showed that during the last week, criminal gangs were most active within the jurisdictions of the Industrial Area, Aabpara, Shalimar, Tarnol and Shams Colony police stations. The 27 vehicles stolen during the period included three cars and 24 motorcycles. During the same period, robbers stabbed and injured a rider, Taswar Hussain, in Jhangi Syedan. According to police, two men hired him for a ride from a bus terminal to Dhoke Basho for Rs300. Upon reaching the area, two more accomplices joined them. The four suspects overpowered the rider, attacked him with daggers and repeatedly stabbed him before fleeing with cash and his motorcycle worth Rs 101,500. In another incident, a gang of robbers looted cash and a motorcycle from Zahoor Ahmed and his wife in Sector C-14 while they were travelling from C-15 towards D-12. Police said two armed men intercepted the couple, held them at gunpoint and escaped with Rs 11,500 in cash, a Honda 125 motorcycle, a 9mm pistol and important documents. Similarly, robbers snatched a motorcycle and a mobile phone from Dawood Ahmed on Ninth Avenue. The suspects held him at gunpoint before escaping with his motorcycle worth Rs 240,000 and Samsung A24 mobile phone valued at Rs 40,000. Meanwhile, burglars stole a motorcycle and household items worth Rs 250,000 from a house in Kirpa. The house of Abdul Rauf was robbed while the family had gone to their native village to attend a funeral. During the last week, auto thieves stole three motorcycles and two cars within the limits of the Industrial Area police station. One case each of auto theft, street crime and robbery was reported to the Shalimar police station, while car thieves stole or snatched three motorcycles within the limits of the Aabpara police station.
