"Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla warned that his country is 'under threat of direct military aggression' by the US, during an event in New Delhi organised by the India-Cuba solidarity movement marking the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Havana. "This is neither paranoia nor a misjudgment. Statements made repeatedly by high-ranking officials and the very actions of the US government corroborate it," Rodriguez declared. He argued that Cuba is not a threat to US national security, contrary to claims made in executive orders signed by President Donald Trump this year. "On January 8, the President of the United States said, and I quote, 'Well, I don't think we can put much more pressure than entering there and destroying everything'," he recalled. Rodriguez said his goal is to help prevent what he described as a foreseeable military aggression against Cuba. "We are not naive. Military aggression could have unpredictable consequences for the region and for Cuba in particular. It is our desire to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe, the shedding of blood and the death of both our compatriots and American youth," he stressed. The minister also called for stronger international support and urged people to tell the "truth about what is really going on" on the island. "Cuba resists. Cuba does not give in. We know we have friends in the world, and that certainty makes us feel stronger," he noted. Secretary of the Communist Party of India, Delhi State Council Dinesh Varshney stated that India denounces Trump’s remarks suggesting Cuba could become Washington's next target. "We strongly condemn that. He should desist from this type of expansionist policy of America," Varshney remarked. He also noted that the Indian government supports Cuba and its development. "We also appeal to the government of India in the future to openly support Cuba and not fall prey to the US imperialist practices and their crony practices," he concluded. In January, the US threatened additional tariffs on imports from any foreign country that 'directly or indirectly' supplies oil to Cuba. Washington has made similar threats to India over its purchases of Russian oil."
