"Miners, farmers, transport unions, and social groups clashed with police forces in downtown La Paz on Monday, during a huge protest against Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz. Footage shows police using tear gas, while demonstrators fired projectiles at law enforcement. A journalist named Maria from local radio can be seen receiving help while seated on a bench after being affected by tear gas. The protesters attempted to advance toward Plaza Murillo, where the presidential palace and Parliament are located, while riot police blocked multiple access points with vehicles and police barricades. Demonstrators responded with firecrackers and homemade explosives, according to reports, while police deployed tear gas amid chaotic scenes across several streets in the Bolivian capital. Damage to public buildings, fires, and acts of vandalism were reported in various parts of the city. Attempted looting and attacks on properties linked to the mining and judicial sectors were also reported. The government deployed thousands of security personnel to contain the protests and clear roadblocks set up in several regions of the country. Authorities stated that security forces would continue containment and control operations, while condemning the use of explosives during the demonstrations. The protests have now lasted more than two weeks across different regions of Bolivia, with road blockades and marches led by mining groups, unions, farmers, and groups aligned with former president Evo Morales. The demonstrators are demanding solutions to fuel shortages, the rising cost of living and the lack of US dollars, while some groups are also calling for the resignation of President Rodrigo Paz."
