'Few casualties' but kids and staff 'safe' - San Diego Islamic centre's director after deadly shooting

"Director of the Islamic Centre of San Diego, Imam Taha Hassane said children and staff at the facility were 'safe' as five people were reported killed including two suspects following a shooting on Monday. "Thanks to God, we are safe. The entire school is safe. All the kids, all the staff and the teachers are safe out of the Islamic Centre. We have few casualties, not confirmed yet. There is no threat at this moment," Hassane said. "We want everyone to stay away from the Islamic Centre of San Diego. We are closed for the rest of the day," he added. US President Donald Trump said he was being briefed on the incident, calling the situation 'terrible.' Police were called to the scene after a shooting was reported at the Islamic centre in the Clairemont area of the city and found three deceased victims according to San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl. One of the victims was a security guard who worked at the centre. The campus houses the county's largest mosque and Al Rashid School. Two suspects, believed to be aged 17 and 19, were found dead in a nearby car with self-inflicted wounds. Police said the incident is being treated as a hate crime according to media reports. "
