KARACHI: The Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany Karachi, in collaboration with the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, hosted a special screening of INTERTANGO – A Connection for Life, an internationally acclaimed documentary by German filmmaker Hanne Weyh, at the Arts Council Pakistan Karachi. The event brought together members of Karachi’s vibrant arts and cultural community for an evening celebrating music, dance, cinema, and intercultural dialogue. Following the screening, guests participated in an engaging Q&A session with Director & Screenwriter, Hanne Weyh, followed by an open dance floor and an introductory Tango lesson for beginners. President of the Arts Council Pakistan Karachi, Mohammad Ahmed Shah, welcomed guests and emphasized the role of the arts in strengthening international cultural understanding and people-to-people connections. In his remarks, Consul General Thomas E. Schultze highlighted the significance of cultural exchange, particularly as Pakistan and Germany commemorate 75 years of diplomatic relations in 2026. He noted that cultural initiatives and artistic collaborations remain among the most meaningful ways to bring societies closer together and deepen mutual understanding. “When one invokes Tango, the imagination rarely turns first to Germany or Pakistan. Yet INTERTANGO offers compelling evidence that this art form — with its intricate emotional vocabulary and profound human expressiveness — transcends geography and culture, forging connections that stretch from Berlin to Karachi and from Buenos Aires to Milan. As Pakistan and Germany celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations this year, cultural events such as this demonstrate how art, music, and dance can create lasting bridges between people, foster dialogue across cultures, and strengthen the bonds of friendship between our two countries.” The evening was further enriched by the participation of Tango enthusiasts, artists, students, diplomats, and guests from diverse walks of life, reflecting Karachi’s growing appreciation for global cultural expressions.
