Deep clean! Medical team leaves 'rat-virus' ship in biohazard suits as remaining crew heads for quarantine

"Phased disembarkation of the deadly hantavirus-hit MV Hondius continued through Monday afternoon, following the cruise ship's arrival at the port of Rotterdam for extensive disinfection. Footage shows medical officials in protective biohazard suits examining the interior and carrying samples and equipment off the ship in bags and boxes. The remaining people on board, primarily crew members, could also be seen leaving the vessel to begin their isolation. After all passengers were evacuated last week, only 25 crew members and two Dutch medical personnel had remained on board. None of those currently arriving are reportedly exhibiting symptoms of hantavirus infection, but they will be placed in quarantine as a precaution. An area next to Caland Pier number 7, where international crew members will isolate, has been cordoned off with opaque fencing, whilst Dutch crew members will quarantine at home. The deep clean of the Hondius will be carried out by the specialised cleaning company EWS Group, with the decontamination process estimated to take three to four days. The outbreak on the ship has so far been linked to three deaths, though the World Health Organisation has denied that it could be the start of a 'new COVID'. Passengers finally disembarked in Tenerife and were flown home last week, and health authorities around the world are now racing to trace the contacts of dozens of passengers who left at earlier stops."
