MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives' Committee on Basic Education and Culture approved a bill aiming to increase the World Teachers' Day incentive to P3,000 from P1,000. Eastern Samar Rep. Christopher Sheen Gonzales, an author of House Bill 4531, said in a statement on Tuesday that he was deeply grateful to the committee, which is led by Pasig Rep. Roman Romulo. "Our teachers play a vital role in shaping the nation's future. Increasing the WTDIB is not only about extending financial support — it is also a meaningful recognition of the dedication, hard work, and sacrifices our educators make every day," Gonzales said. The statement said the bill also sought to institutionalize the World Teachers' Day Incentive Benefit (WTDIB), "which Congress first granted to public school teachers in 2019 through a provision" in the General Appropriations Act. The incentive is given every Oct. 5, 2026. The bill still has to undergo consideration at the House plenary level.
